Multiple celebrities hacked and 'doxxed,' including First Lady Michelle Obama

More than twelve celebrities have been hacked and "doxxed," according to a report on Monday. Doxxing is the act of revealing the personal information of people on the Internet, generally including their name, address, phone number(s), social security number, passwords, and other financial information.

The report lists the following celebrities as being hacked, some less celebrated than others. Among the list of celebrities hacked (and the list continues to expand, with at least one high-profile celebritty added on Tuesday) are:
  • Charlie Beck (Los Angeles Police Department chief)
  • Beyonce
  • Jay-Z
  • Joe Biden
  • Hillary Clinton
  • Ashton Kutcher
  • Mel Gibson
  • Paris Hilton
  • Eric Holder
  • Kim Kardashian
  • Robert Mueller (FBI director)
  • Michelle Obama
  • Sarah Palin
  • Britney Spears
  • Donald Trump
It is unclear if all the reports on those hacked are accurate. Some differ on the celebrities hacked, but most have the same list, for the most part. Two of the political targets, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, didn't see much of their information exposed. On the other hand, the FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, had a lot more revealed. In addition, when the link on Obama's name is clicked on, a comment is revealed: "Blame your husband, we still love you, Michelle."

It's possible, therefore, that at least Obama's hack is politically motivated.

The website, not revealed by the media, carries an Internet country code originally assigned to the Soviet Union (.su). Internet country codes are two-letter codes that represent a country.

The site described the information as “secret files,” but did not elaborate on how or why the celebrities had been targeted. Hacker organizations such as Anonymous have not come forward to claim the hack, yet.
