Those running the latest version of Android, meaning 4.2, get an extra bonus: There's a lock screen widget allowing users to add notes quickly, without unlocking the device.
Notably, Google accidentally leaked the release a few days early -- which is where the "again" note comes from. Naturally, we also expect an iOS app to eventually be released.
Here's how Keep is described at the Play Store:
Quickly capture what’s on your mind and recall it easily wherever you are. Create a checklist, enter a voice note or snap a photo and annotate it. Everything you add is instantly available on all your devices – desktop and mobile. That http://drive.google.com/keep link is important for other reasons. You can add and edit notes on the Web there.
With Google Keep you can:
- Keep track of your thoughts via notes, lists and photos
- Have voice notes transcribed automatically
- Use homescreen widgets to capture thoughts quickly
- Color-code your notes to help find them later
- Swipe to archive things you no longer need
- Turn a note into a checklist by adding checkboxes
- Use your notes from anywhere - they are safely stored in the cloud and available on the web at http://drive.google.com/keep
Typical of Google, the company has released a YouTube video describing Keep. It's embedded below.
One missing feature would be to be able to see your Keep notes at your main Google Drive page or in your Google Drive app that you might have attached as a drive on your laptop or desktop. At least for now, we couldn't find any way to do either.
