The price rollbacks, as the retail giant likes to call them, were effective on Friday, Dec. 14. Among the changes:
- The 16GB iPhone 5 is available for for $127, vs. the $199 you might find at a carrier or Apple (with a two-year contract)
- The iPhone 4S has dropped for an already discounted $89.97 to $47 (with a two-year contract). The same device is $99 at Apple or a carrier.
- The 16GB third-generation iPad (or iPad 3), wi-fi-only, is available for $399 at Walmart vs. its original $499 at Apple (it's not being sold any longer by Apple). In addition, Walmart said its iPad deal will feature a bonus $30 iTunes card beginning on Dec. 17, but the special rollback prices are available in-store only.
Meanwhile, Target is similarly planning a cut in prices, but only on Virgin Mobile’s prepaid 16GB iPhone 4S. The device, which comes sans contract, will drop from $449.99 to $399.99 starting on Dec. 16. However, the deal is only available at Target Mobile locations.
