It's not just us, either, as neighboring Google users are experiencing issues across a number of Google services, and this is long after the reported restoration of service. Most are reporting that the service was restored after 50 minute. At the time of this writing, it's been two hours, and we are still seeing issues.
Additionally, we're seeing effects far beyond the widely reported Gmail and Google+ services.
a) A Google Voice text message arrived in our inbox 1 1/2 hours after being sent to us.
b) Entering data into a Google Docs spreadsheet resulted in an error. This was repeated more than once before the sheet finally accepted the formulas.
c) We continue to see sporadic Gmail burps.
While the outages themselves are painful, it does remind users just how closely tied in they are to Google.
Ironically, at the time that the services went out, members of Google’s Site Reliability Engineering team, which ensures that Google services stay up, were doing an AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit. One can only imagine what one question might have been (wink, wink).
The exact nature of the outage is still unconfirmed by Google, but the company has promised “more information shortly.”
