Apple announces 'colorful' Sept. 10 iPhone 5C / iPhone 5S press event

On Tuesday, Apple sent out media invitations to an event scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10 at 10 a.m. PDT (via The Loop). The presser will be held at Apple's Cupertino, Calif., headquarters.

It has been widely expected that Apple will announce both the flagship iPhone 5S and the lower-cost iPhone 5C at the event. The invitation, which sports several colored spots behind the Apple logo, indicates (to those watching thus far) that at the very least, Apple will unveil the iPhone 5C, which will come in a variety of colors.

Assuming the invitation is accurate color-wise, the iPhone 5C will come in two shades of blue, two shades of green, purple, white, yellow, red, magenta and orange. Ten colors for the iPhone 5C is a bit hard to swallow, so we'll see if Apple was overzealous in its coloration of the invitation.

The iPhone 5S is expected to be an iPhone 5 with improved internals, perhaps a better camera, and a fingerprint reader. The iPhone 5C is expected to be lower-cost, about $300 or more unsubsidized, with iPhone 5 internals and a plastic case.

It's predicted that the fact that the iPhone 5C will sport iPhone 5 internals means an end to the company's practice of selling the prior year's model at a reduced cost.

It is expected that more details about the iOS 7 rollout will be announced on Sept. 10, too.
