22-year-old Dareka R. Brooks (shown) was arraigned in Cook County Circuit Court on Friday on charges of armed robbery. Bond was set at $10,000.
According to Assistant State’s Attorney Katherine Levine, the teen, unnamed due to his age, was home alone on Wednesday when he arranged a sexual encounter with Brooks through a website. When Brooks arrived at his home, she told him to go into the bedroom and remove his pants.
When the teen sat on the bed, Brooks sprayed a sort of pepper spray-like substance in his face, grabbed his iPad and a piggy bank and fled.
Apparently not fearing the embarrassment, the teen then called police and provided them with a description of Brooks’ vehicle. She was apprehended within hours at an Elk Grove Village, Ill. motel. Reportedly, police tracked her down when she turned on the iPad, using the iPad's built-in-security software to determine its location.
Both the iconic Apple tablet -- and the piggy bank -- were recovered. Authorities did not confirm how much money was in the bank, but we'd guess the iPad was more valuable.
