'Man of Steel' app launches exclusively on Nokia Lumias

The official "Man of Steel" app arrived on Monday, and somewhat surprisingly, it's not on either iOS or Android. It's on Windows Phone, but there is even more exclusivity than that: It's not on all Windows Phone hardware, but only on Nokia Lumias.

Here's how the app is described on the Windows Phone Store:
"The epic Man of Steel (TM) movie unleashes the action with Nokia Lumia!

Nokia's exclusive Man of Steel (TM) app for Windows Phone 8 brings all the excitement and entertainment of Warner Brothers' summer movie to Lumia phones.

Countdown to the movie premiere; play up to five different challenges as they get increasingly more difficult over 4 game chapters and unlock wallpapers, ringtones and DC comic books; watch the movie trailers and follow the latest buzz about the blockbuster hit. Find nearby theaters with HERE Maps.

…And don’t forget to harness the power of your super powerful camera to enter your photo in the See the World as the Man of Steel (TM) photo contest for your chance to win movie premiere tickets and merchandise!"
The four chapters mentioned above include over 40 game challenges that, when played, will reveal more than 40 "rewards" fans of the superhero that some have dubbed "the big blue boy scout," due to his strong moral code, the result of his upbringing by his adoptive family, the Kents.

Unlockable items include Man of Steel wallpapers, ringtones and even new DC Comic books. Users have the opportunity to read four full-length issues of DC Comics' "Superman Origins."

As you might expect in this age of social media, users can let their friends know of their progress as they unlock rewards, as well as photos created in the application. Sharing can be done via text messaging or on social networks.

"Man of Steel" premieres in theaters on June 14.  It stars stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent / Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent, Diane Lane as Martha Kent, Laurence Fishburne as Perry White, Michael Shannon as General Zod, Antje Traue as Faora, Ayelet Zurer as Lara Lor-Van, Christopher Meloni as Colonel Hardy, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, and Richard Schiff as Dr. Emil Hamilton.
