Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Galactic give Kate Winslet an out of this world gift

Kate Winslet has received a present from Sir Richard Branson, and it is out of this world. According to a report in Friday's Telegraph, the actress, who earlier this month secretly wed Branson's nephew, Ned RocknRoll, has been given a $200,000 ticket for a Virgin Galactic flight into space.

It appears that the ticket was not a wedding present, but rather a gift for Winslet's saving of Branson's mother Eve from a fire on his Necker Island retreat last year. Either way, it is reported that the 37-year-old Academy Award-winning actress was “over the moon” after she received the gift.

In September, Branson said: "I'm not sure she [Winslet] wants to go on a one-way trip to Mars, but she wants to go into space."

Ned RocknRoll, 34, her new husband, works part time for Virgin Galactic. Thus, the actress probably feels as though she is in safe hands. Virgin Galactic expects to begin flights in 2013.

According to Wikipedia, Virgin Galactic, which is a company within Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Group, "plans to provide sub-orbital spaceflights to space tourists, suborbital launches for space science missions and orbital launches of small satellites. Further in the future Virgin Galactic hopes to offer orbital human spaceflights as well."

More than 530 people have already purchased a $200,000 ticket for a trip, including comedian Russell Brand and actor Ashton Kutcher. Noted physicist Stephen Hawking has also received an offer for a free trip, again courtesy of Branson.
