There has been some speculation that Apple might hold off on the iPad mini until next year - releasing it with the iPad 4 (or new new iPad) or release it later this year. However, a new report issued on Friday says it's coming, and very soon.
The event, sources tell AllThingsD, will be held on Oct. 23. That's a Tuesday, not a Wednesday, so that would break with recent tradition, if true. It would also be just three days prior to the release date for Microsoft’s new Surface tablet (the Windows RT version, not the fuller featured Windows 8 Pro version).
A location was not confirmed by the sources, but the guess is Apple won't go all out with an event at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, where it introduced the iPhone 5. It it chooses to eschew that forum, it could hold it at its HQ's Town Hall Auditoriumm, where the company has debuted a number of important products - including the iPhone 4S.
Details remain slim, although images have been leaking lately. It's expected that the iPad mini will feature a 7.85-inch display with a non-retina 1,024 x 768 resolution and a Lightning connector. We’ll know more soon.
