Apple accused of trademark, copyright infringement with its iOS 6 iPad clock app design

Apple is getting a taste of its own medicine. Apple is being accused of trademark and copyright infringement. At issue is the iconic clock of Switzerland's Schweizerische Bundesbahnen, or Swiss Federal Railway service.

Schweizerische Bundesbahnen has accused Apple of using their clock in the iOS 6 Clock app for iPad without permission, according to a report in the Swiss newspaper Blick (translated).

The clock was designed in the 1940s by engineer and designer Hans Hilfiker (1901-93). According to Wikipedia, the clock has become a national icon.

The clock's image has been widely licensed. For example, the watchmaker Mondaine sells replicas around the world. According to the report, however, Apple did not make any attempt to do so, in terms of its new Clock app.

Apple has not yet responded to requests for comment.
