The VIDDY "Meet Up" and Beach Party takes place this Saturday, Aug. 11, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. PST. VIDDY users will be able to enjoy free competitions and giveaways from folks such as Waboba, LifeProof, Huberts Lemonade and ShoeDazzle.
In addition, Uber, which connects mobile app users with luxury car drivers, will be providing transportation to and from the #SPLASHMOB party for half-price. To claim this promotion, guests must enter the the promo code “SPLASHMOB” before requesting a ride.
In an emailed press release, the company said:
"Viddy is almost a year and a half old, so we decided it was about time to get as many Viddy users in one place as we could for an afternoon of fun in the sun! We're inviting not only Viddy users from the Southern California area, but Viddy users from around the world. We're even expecting a few of our favorite Viddyographers from as far off as New York City to join in the fun at at first ever #SPLASHMOB!"
The company wasn't specific, but since they're using the hashtag #SPLASHMOB in their release, we expect they want VIDDY users to upload videos with that hashtag.
It's been speculated that VIDDY might become the Instagram of video. It has surpassed 40 million registered users and allows users to upload short, 15-second videos with special effects like filters and music, and publish them through the app to share with friends and followers.
A number of artists have joined with VIDDY, as well, providing "Production Packs." Among them are Linkin Park, Mindless Behavior, T-Pain, and more.
The only negative in our mind: VIDDY still has not released an Android version. Get with it, guys! Android now has 68 percent of the global smartphone market, according to IDC.
