Live-streamed coverage of Whitney Houston's funeral expected to spike Web traffic [VIEW LIVE]

The Internet fared just fine under the load of what most believe to be the biggest annual broadcast event: Super Bowl XLVI, which was live-streamed for the first time this year, but how will it fare today. While there is to be no public memorial service for the late, great Whitney Houston, several venues will live-stream coverage, which could bring the Web to its knees.

The funeral hasn't even begun yet, but streaming already has. It will be interesting to see the Internet use numbers that will be released after the event by Akamai. As an example, Web traffic peaked at about 42 percent above normal during 2011's Royal Wedding. Most of that traffic was in Europe, as you might expect; this might prove to be a global event due to Houston's worldwide fame, though you would certainly expect that with the timing of the coverage, the U.S. will see a large portion of the traffic.

The funeral is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. PST, 12:00 p.m. EST. Many sources will begin streaming earlier, however. In fact, MSNBC is already streaming scenes from the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., where Whitney got her start, and where her mother, Cissy Houston, is still a member.

Among the other sites streaming the video stream of the Houston video will be AP, which will stream the event from its APLive channel.  CNN will have its own live stream of the services at, while will embed the AP’s stream.  AP's stream is embedded below.

There had been some rumbling about a public memorial service, but that never came to fruition.  Instead, the family opted for a private service, but surprisingly is allowing massive television and live-streaming coverage, as well.

Whitney Houston passed away last Saturday, and was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. PST at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.  While the official coroner's report awaits toxicology results, it's been revealed already by the police that Houston was discovered in her hotel bathroom, underwater and unconscious.

Toxicology results will take weeks to return.
