Angry Birds about to flit into Space, on March 22

In just a little more than a month, Angry Birds will leave the safety of Earth and reach space, with the brand new Angry Birds Space game. Rovio said that Angry Birds Space is “the biggest game launch since the original Angry Birds.”

And if you're wondering just what Angry Birds is, it's not a set of birds "angry" at Alfred Hitchcock for his movie, "The Birds." In the game, you shoot cute Angry Bird characters --- with different characteristics and play types for different birds --- using a slingshot at some green pigs hidden in structures that can be destroyed by being hit appropriated by the birds.

Angry Birds Space will launch simultaneously in animation, retail, publishing as well as mobile gaming. If you're wondering that the physics of space will be accurate, the answer is yes --- you'll be dealing with zero gravity, new bird types, and new gameplay elements like slow-motion puzzles and "lightspeed" destruction.

Angry Birds has arguably been THE big success story for mobile gaming since its initial release on iOS in December 2009. It's available on iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and even Google's Chrome browser, with some 700 million downloads taking place.

It's due out on March 22. Based on the excitement around the game, we're hoping for a simultaneous multi-platform launch, at least on iOS and Android.

You can watch the teaser trailer below, which says "It's one small fling for a bird, one quantum leap for birdkind."
