Flurry Analytics said earlier that, combined, there were 6.8 million iOS and Android devices activated on Christmas Day alone. It didn't break that number down into platform-specific numbers, however, but it seems that there are some clues that can be extrapolated upon, coming straight from Google.
Google's Andy Rubin (Senior Vice President of Mobile), said on Google+ that 3.7 million Android devices were activated on Christmas weekend. Now, just a few days prior, he also said that 700,000 Android devices were activated daily. Assuming there was no spike or drop on Christmas Eve, that would mean 3 million Android devices were activated on Christmas Day.
Doing the math, that would mean that 3.8 million iOS devices were activated on Christmas Day. Ouch, a win for Apple?
This is all based on "not enough information," as Flurry Analytics numbers derive from the 140,000 apps that use its analytics service. However, it's the best information we have for now, unless Apple comes forward with a press release, which it would normally have done by now if it were going to do so.
