8.9-inch Kindle Fire coming in Q2 2012: report

We know it's coming: the 8.9-inch second big brother to the current 7-inch version of the Kindle Fire and DigiTimes believes it has a date.

The information comes in a post about Foxconn (yes, that Foxconn) joining currently ODM Quanta Computer as a 7-inch Kindle manufacturer. While that will happen, according to DigiTimes' upstream supplier sources, in Q1 2012, consumers can expect the 8.9-inch version to launch by the end of Q2 2012.

The sources said the reason for the timing would be to avoid competition with other vendors' tablet products, as well to take advantage of LG and Samsung promotions for 8.9-inch display panels.

In addition, Foxconn (yes, that Foxconn) will begin production of the 8.9-inch Kindle Fire in the middle of Q2 2012.

Although Amazon.com hasn't confirmed the 8.9-inch version, originally when the Amazon.com tablet was rumored there were to be to two models, a higher spec 8.9-inch model and the current 7-inch model. Of course, it's still just a rumor that there is an 8.9-inch model planned.
