Engineering samples of Android 3.0 tablets to arrive in Dec.: report

DigiTimes, citing its Asian manufacturing sources, said late Monday that engineering samples of Android 3.0-based tablets will arrive in December. The site added that many OEMs are expected to launch their tablet PCs in January, 2011 at CES.

The report cited notebook OEMs such as Acer, Asustek and MSI as well as smartphone manufacturers Samsung, HTC, and Motorola as being ready to launch. The went further and stated that Android 4.0 would be set to launch in 2H11.

Finally, the sources stated that the cost for adopting the Windows Phone platform will be around $50 - 60, but manufacturers only need to pay $10 for the license of Android.
