'Cat Bin Lady' faces two counts of animal cruelty

The U.K.'s "Cat Bin Lady," who became an Internet sensation, and not in a good way, after CCTV footage showing her dumping a cat into a garbage bin was uploaded to YouTube, has been charged with two counts of animal cruelty.

Mary Bale, 45, drew the attention of the globe when footage showing her first stroking, then dumping Lola into a garbage bin was uploaded by Lola's owners, Stephanie and Darryl Mann of Coventry in central England onto YouTube. The members of the image group 4Chan even went so far as to ID her, posting it and her personal information online.

Users of Facebook created hate groups, including this example, "Cat Lady should do time in a bin." Some even created anti-Mary Bale online video games.

Bale has been charged with causing unnecessary suffering to the feline, as well as failing to provide the cat with a suitable environment, according to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA). Bale will appear at a magistrate's court in Coventry on Oct. 19th. If convicted, she could face a jail sentence as well as a lifetime ban against owning animals.
