Google: 200,000 Android phones activated daily

When we last heard figures on Android phone activations from Google, it was late June, and Google said they were activating 160,000 Android devices a day. It's now a nice round figure of 200,000, as Google CEO Eric Schmidt told reporters Wednesday at the Techonomy conference in Lake Tahoe, NV.

Unlimited Online Backup Only $4.95Obviously (?) this type of growth can't continue, but that's double the 100,000-device per day figure that was given by Google at its IO developer conference in May.

Additionally, for those who think Android is still losing money for Google, Schmidt said mobile search ad revenue on Android is large enough to "pay for all of Android activities and a whole bunch more." Interesting, Schmidt was using a Nexus One device, which he called "recently cancelled."
