HP looks to trademark PalmPad

Do we have a contender for a name for the rumored HP Palm webOS tablet PC? Based on a USPTO trademark application dated July 9th, it could be the PalmPad.

The PalmPad could be anything, based on the list of possible categories for the trademark:

Computers, computer hardware, computer software, computer peripherals, portable computers, handheld and mobile computers, PDAs, electronic notepads, mobile digital electronic devices

We would vote for the "mobile digital electronic device" based on the obviously similarity between PalmPad and iPad.

Possible issues here include the rather defensive nature Apple has with its own trademarks. They've filed suits over things using the word "Pod," even when the product has absolutely no resemblance to an iPod.

Just like Apple and the iPhone, whose name was owned by Cisco, HP might have to do some wheelin' and dealin', too. There's an appliance remote control known as the PalmPad. In Apple's case, they had to come to an agreement with Cisco.
