Barrons is reporting an unnamed analyst has not just seen Apple's upcoming tablet PC (coined the iTablet), but also that he expects it to be announced in September with a ship date around November. That would place the iTablet in a perfect position for holiday sales. The price range is a little high for this recession, around $7 - 800, but the device could create another new category of devices, and revolutionize tablet PCs as the iPhone and iPod did in their segments.
The iTablet is currently thought to be a multimedia device and gaming device. Think e-book reading (Kindle), browsing the Web, playing all sorts of media, and more. Given that sort of functionality, the price makes sense.
Still, will this Christmas season be a good one, or another poor one? After all, the call is still being made for American consumer to buy, and they aren't. Still, the i-cultishness of this might be enough to push consumers. We'll see.
