iPhone Tethering App Reappears in App Store

It's baaaaack! NetShare, Nullriver's iPhone tethering application which allows users to turn their iPhone into a modem to use with their PC or laptop, after appearing and disappearing, is back in the App Store (click above to enlarge).

NetShare is available for a reasonable $9.99 and is described as follows:

Share your iPhone's EDGE or 3G Internet connection with your computer using NetShare. NetShare provides a SOCKS5 proxy for your computer to connect to.
Some interesting, and useful comments by buyers:
  • It's a great app but be careful of hitting the limit of your unlimited data plan. (Yes, we've seen stories of end users getting hit with huge bills for using their cell phone with tethering and P2P).
  • Unless you are paying for tethering, this is very likely against your AT&T contract.
It's unclear why Apple earlier removed NetShare. While Nullriver commented on the disappearance on their website, they didn't update the comment when the app reappeared.

Naturally, cynic that I am, I speculated that it had something to do with Apple's relationship / partnership with AT&T.

Some users are having difficulty getting Firefox to work with NetShare. Here's the workaround, Windows version 3.0:
  • In Firefox, go to Tools, Options, Advanced tab
  • Select the Network tab
  • Click on the Settings button
  • Select the Manual Proxy Configuration radio button
  • Enter the IP address in the SOCKS Host field
You should now be able to surf.
