It wasn't that long ago that Cuba and new President Raul Castro relaxed their ban on cell phones, allowing Cubans to at last join the mobile world. While that was great, still better: on Friday, Cubans could finally buy computers as well. The sale of personal computers to the public had been authorized more than a month ago,, in mid-March but PCs were not made available until Friday.
Now, don't expect Cubans to be buying laptops and iMacs. In fact, it's unclear exactly what type of computers they are able to get their hands on, or how many of them can even afford them.
Finally, it's unclear iCubans can get online if they manage to purchase a PC.
This could be a great target country for either Intel's Classmate PCs or the OLPC, though, if Cuba decides to follow Venezuela toward more computerization of their citizens.
